Dochula Pass

 




Do Chula Pass is a beautiful mountain pass located between Thimphu and Punakha in Bhutan. Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck known as “Druk Wangyel Chortens” at Do Chula Pass in honors of the fourth king, The chortens were built adjacent to the country’s first Royal Botanical Park.
The Do Chula Pass is a historical landmark built to honors the bravery and sacrifices of the fourth king and the soldiers who perished during the battle against Assamese insurgents in 2003. It particularly marks the victory of King Jigme Singye Wangchuck who dislodged the rebels from their camps (there were 30 camps) in Bhutanese territory from where they raided Indian territory of Assam. After the war, the King went back to Thimphu on 28 December 2003. Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck commanded for the 108 chortens to be built. The construction of the chortens was completed in mid-June 2004 and formally consecrated and sanctified with religious rites on 19–20 June 2004.
Do Chula Pass is one of the main highlights for many tourists. You can never take a bad photo at the stunning Do Chula Pass. In fact, if you are lucky, you can even see the Himalayan range in full view on a clear day from the mountain pass. Gangkhar Phuensum at 7,158 meters (23, 484 ft), the tallest unclimbed mountain in the world, can be seen from Do Chula Pass. 

It is a magnificent pass that cuts through the snow-covered Himalayas on the road which connects Thimphu to Punakha. The pass is dotted with several memorable landmarks, one of the most famous is the Druk Wangyel Khang Zhang Chortens. The pass also enjoys an immense popularity with the tourists since it provides a beautiful view of the Himalayas. On days when the weather is clear, the view is one that easily wins your heart.
Because of its immense altitude, the weather at the Do Chula Pass remains foggy throughout the year. Visit it between the months of February and October, and you will be treated to breathtaking views of the Bhutan Himalayas. Lovely forest covers embrace the passes, while the hill slopes surrounding, it are marked by colorful religious flags which are holy to the Buddhists. Visit it during February, after the end of the Losar Festival, and the Do Chula Pass presents a colorful spectacle of different flowers. During the month of March, rhododendrons are in full blooms which makes even more beautiful, Particularly for tourist Do Chula Pass is the best place to visit.
